Regulations of Memorization and Recitation Contests

6th International Quran Competition for Muslim Students Regulations

 

Foreword

Following the successful organization of 5 editions of the International Quran Competition for Muslim Students, the Iranian Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research (ACECR) plans to hold the 6th edition of the international event in the categories of memorization of the entire Quran and recitation (Tahghigh) of the Quran for men in the Iranian month of Dey (December 2016- January 2017).

Objectives

  1. Enhancing unity and solidarity among students of the Muslim world with the aim of helping to resolve the current issues
  2. Creating a venue for cultural, intellectual interaction among the Muslim world elites
  3. Promoting and fostering the Quranteachings and ethics among Muslim students
  4. Encouraging Muslim students and academics to learn the Quran and make progress in Quranic fields
  5. Introducing the national and cultural works of different Muslim nations

General Requirements for Participants

Applicants are required to meet all the following criteria to take part in the competition:

  1. Contenders must be Muslim.
  2. The competition is held for men only.
  3. Each contender can compete only in one category.
  4. Once he selects a category to compete in, the contender cannot change it.
  5. Contenders must be a university student at the time of competition (January 2017). Applicants need to present a certificate that shows they are a university student. The certificate must be confirmed by the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the applicant’s country.
  6. Contenders must be a citizen of the country they represent in the competition.

 If the contender has disabilities (visual impairment, physical limitations, etc), he can be accompanied by a companion.

  1. Applicants need to fill out the application form and provide the required documents and certificates.
  2. Winners of the first ranks in previous editions cannot apply for the 2017 edition of the contest.

Special Requirements for Contestants

  1. Applicants should be winner of first rank in national or international Quran competitions held at the student or general levels.
  2. Contenders in the recitation category must be fully familiar with the rules of Tajweed, Tarteel, Sowt and Lahn. They ought to be able to recite the Quran while observing the rules of recitation.
  3. Contenders in the memorization category need to be able to answer the questions and recite the verses determined by the jury panel right away.
  4. Each applicant needs to provide letters of reference from two Quran masters or a Quranic institute in his respective country confirming he meets the requirements specified in the previous items (2 and 3).

Procedures for Registration & Introduction of Countries’ Representatives

Iranian cultural centers abroad issue calls for participation in the contest.  The cultural center in every country introduces to the secretariat up to three individuals in each category who meet the general and special requirements of the contest. The secretariat considers the candidates’ conditions and documents and informs the cultural center of the results. The cultural center will then hold a competition to select the country’s representatives in each category. After the results of the competition are announced, the secretariat will inform the cultural center of whether the individuals can participate in the contest.

 

Stages of Sending the Forms and Issuing Calls for Participation in the Competition

- The secretariat sends the forms and announcements to Iranian cultural centers abroad

- Iranian cultural centers receive the forms and announcements

- Iranian cultural centers have interactions with the related institutions in the target country

- Dissemination of information about the contest

 

- Applicants receive the required forms from the Iranian cultural center and register for the contest

- Preliminary and final evaluation tests and contests are held by the Iranian cultural center

- Results of the tests and contests are announced

- The form is filled out by the selected applicant and is confirmed by the Iranian cultural center

Observations

- All Iranian cultural centers abroad will receive a username in the competition website for introducing the related country’s representatives,

- Due to financial constraints, the secretariat will not be able to receive accompanying persons (except for those mentioned in article 7 of the general requirements).

- The venue of the competition will be announced later.

- This edition of the contest will be held on January  2017.

- From every country, up to 3 individuals will beintroduced in each category initially and ultimately one in each category will represent that country in the contest.

- The cost of tickets, accommodation and meals for the participants during their stay will be covered by thesecretariat of the contest.

- It is recommended that the competition regulations be posted on official websites of the related country’s universities to let students know about the conditions of attending the contest.

- The competition for selecting representatives of each country will be held electronically by Quran experts at the Iranian Academics Quranic Activities Organization (at the secretariat of the competition) and the Iranian cultural center in that country.

- Iran’s cultural centers can also select and introduce representatives of the adjacent countries in which Iran has no embassy.

- The regulations for judgment in the competition are available at the website of the contest.

 

 

- The date for the competition for selecting the final representatives of each country will be announced later.

- Applicants for the recitation category can themselves submit a video file of their recitation of the Quran via the website of the competition for evaluation.

Prizes

Winners of the first title in each category:  USD 10000

Winners of the second title in each category: USD 7000

Winners of the third title in each category: USD 5000

It should be noted that all the introduced candidates will be evaluated by the secretariat and the final results will be announced to the related Iranian cultural center later on. Therefore, it is kindly requested that the cultural centers wait until the final approval by the secretariat to inform the candidates.
